You get space back. That cramped hallway where traditional doors constantly bang into walls? Gone. Your closet becomes fully accessible instead of half-hidden behind bifold panels that never quite work right.
The room flows better. Open floor plans stay open, but you still get privacy when you need it. Your barn door slides smoothly along the wall, creating separation without the bulk of traditional doors interrupting your sight lines.
Everything looks intentional. No more doors that feel like afterthoughts or compromise your design vision. Your custom barn door becomes the statement piece that ties the room together—whether you’re going for sleek modern lines or warm, natural wood grain.
A Plus Shutters & Shades has been serving the DFW area with custom door solutions that work. We’re not a big-box store trying to squeeze your space into standard sizes. We’re local professionals who understand that New Sweden homes have character—and your doors should complement that, not fight it.
We measure everything twice, custom-build each door to your exact specifications, and install it right the first time. Our team has handled everything from tight bathroom spaces to wide pantry openings, and we know which hardware works best for Texas homes.
When we say “custom,” we mean it. Your trim color gets matched exactly. Your space gets measured to the 16th of an inch. Your installation gets completed without drama, mess, or callbacks.
We start with a free consultation at your home. No pressure, no sales pitch—just an honest assessment of your space and what’s possible. We’ll measure everything, show you material options, and give you a clear quote on the spot.
Once you’re ready to move forward, we handle the manufacturing. Your barn door gets built to your exact measurements using high-quality materials. We’re talking solid wood construction, professional-grade hardware, and finishes that match your existing trim perfectly.
Installation day is straightforward. Our team arrives with everything needed, installs your track system securely into wall studs, hangs your door, and tests everything until it slides like butter. We clean up completely and show you exactly how everything works before we leave.
Ready to get started?
Your barn door installation includes professional-grade track systems designed to handle daily use without sagging or binding. We use heavy-duty rollers that glide quietly—none of that grinding, scraping noise you get with cheap hardware.
The doors themselves are factory-finished for durability and easy maintenance. We’re talking smooth surfaces that wipe clean, colors that won’t fade or chip, and construction that handles Texas humidity without warping or splitting.
In New Sweden, we see a lot of homes with unique architectural details—arched doorways, non-standard openings, custom trim work. Our installation process accommodates these features instead of working around them. Your barn door becomes part of your home’s character, not something that looks tacked on as an afterthought.
You need wall space equal to the width of your door opening, plus a few extra inches for smooth operation. For a standard 32-inch doorway, plan on about 36 inches of clear wall space to the side where the door will slide.
This wall space needs to be unobstructed—no light switches, outlets, or artwork where the door will travel. We measure everything during your consultation and let you know exactly what modifications, if any, are needed.
If wall space is tight, we have solutions like bypass systems where doors slide past each other, or bi-parting doors that split and slide in opposite directions. Every space is different, and we’ll find what works for yours.
Most walls can support barn door installation, but it depends on the structure behind them. We need solid mounting points—either wall studs or blocking—to support the weight of the door and track system safely.
Drywall alone won’t cut it. We locate the studs and use heavy-duty mounting hardware rated for the door’s weight. For heavier doors or wider openings, we might recommend additional blocking between studs for extra support.
During your consultation, we assess your wall structure and let you know if any prep work is needed. Most installations are straightforward, but we’d rather be upfront about requirements than deal with problems later.
Big box store kits are built to fit “average” spaces with standard measurements. Your home isn’t average, and those standard sizes rarely work perfectly. You end up with gaps, binding, or doors that don’t quite cover the opening properly.
Our doors are measured and built specifically for your space. The track length, door width, and mounting hardware are all sized for your exact opening. The materials are also higher quality—solid wood construction instead of hollow core, professional-grade hardware instead of lightweight alternatives.
The installation makes a huge difference too. We handle the measuring, mounting, and adjustment to ensure everything works smoothly from day one. With a kit, you’re on your own if something doesn’t fit right or the door doesn’t slide properly.
Most single barn door installations take 3-4 hours from start to finish. This includes mounting the track system, hanging the door, making adjustments, and testing everything thoroughly.
Complex installations—like wide openings requiring double doors, or spaces needing electrical work moved—can take longer. We give you a time estimate during your consultation so you can plan accordingly.
The manufacturing time is typically 2-3 weeks from when you approve the design. We’re not rushing your door through a factory assembly line; we’re building it properly to your specifications. Once it’s ready, we schedule installation at your convenience.
Barn doors provide excellent visual privacy when closed, but they’re not as sound-tight as traditional hinged doors. There are small gaps around the edges where the door meets the wall and floor—this is normal and necessary for smooth operation.
For spaces where sound control is important, we can add soft-close systems and weatherstripping to minimize gaps. We also offer solid wood construction that dampens sound better than hollow-core alternatives.
If you need complete sound isolation—like for a home office during video calls—a traditional hinged door might be better. But for most applications, barn doors provide plenty of privacy while maintaining the open feel that makes them so popular.
Absolutely. Color matching is one of our specialties, and it’s included in every installation. We bring samples to your home during the consultation and match your existing trim, cabinets, or whatever finish you prefer.
We use high-quality stains and paints that maintain color consistency over time. Your barn door won’t look like an add-on; it’ll look like it was always part of your home’s design.
If you want something different from your existing trim, we can do that too. Many customers choose barn doors as accent pieces with contrasting colors or finishes. We’ll show you options and help you decide what works best with your overall design vision.
